Testimonials

"I was once told by one of my professors that after a person graduates from university they only have a few months to use their status as a student to get a job. My goal from the beginning of the school semester was to have a job that I could see a future for myself and establish a successful career. I had always heard of the career fair at Brock University but never attended. This year, I thought that being a fourth year student; it was time to be serious about my future. So, I decided to research what companies were going to be attending. Once I had a list, I decided to choose companies, which I felt, had the best fit for me. As a business student I knew that I had to establish concrete contacts with potential employment as well employers would have to develop an interest in me within the first few seconds of meeting them. The night before the event, I prepared questions that I would address to employers as well reviewed mock interview questions with a friend. As I arrived to the career fair, I was given a map of where the employers were located and used this as my main tool. I approached each employer the same way showing interest in their company and not just handing my resume over and running as most people do. I met many employers that day, but two employers, grabbed my interest. I talked with each of them for about 15 minutes and gave them my resume. Before I left, I made sure I had their business card for future contact. I emailed each a short thank you letter expressing my interest in each of their companies, and stated that I would like to meet with them to discuss further opportunities. This worked for me, as I received offers from both companies. I decided to accept a branch manager position with Fastenal Canada. The career fair allowed me to utilize my future plans and achieve my life goal. It also gave me the tools to attain a good job that I can be proud of. Attending the Career Fair 2005 hosted by Career Services was a life changing experience."
